DIY Vintage Aluminum Tree
Disclaimer: while these are the steps that I took to make our aluminum tree this post is written for entertainment purposes only and will probably not actually guide you step by step to make this yourself.
Step One: Go estate sale-ing
Step Two: Find a storage bin full of just the silver aluminum branches from an old tree, buy them because how can you resist, and then store them away in the attic for four years. (step 2.5: each year when you visit the attic to pull Christmas stuff down look at the bin of branches and ask yourself “is it time to get rid of these?” each and every time the correct answer is no).
Step Three: Finally say it’s time to use these and buy a closet rod from Lowes.
Step Four: Bring the new closet rod and a real vintage aluminum tree pole to your husband and say “Make this one look like that one”. You may be tempted to oversee how exactly he does this and make sure that he’s doing it right but trust me just let this be his own project, don’t overthink it.
Step Five: Steal a vintage metal tree base from your grandma’s garage and paint it a white or cream color.
Step Six: Start adding the estate sale find branches to the pole cut by your husband. Avoid the branches that are bent or dirty.
Step Seven: Add your mom’s true vintage ornaments and enjoy your new DIY Aluminum Tree!
